There are no words, and yet there are many words to describe Katie because she stepped into and lived a life unlike many of us.
Katie was "always" there for those in her family who were not well, and needed support. While struggling with back issues and later Rheumatoid and osteoarthritis herself, she selflessly took care of her husband Jay who was stricken by strokes. In addition, she would regularly travel from Santa Barbara area to Orange County to help my mother who was seriously ill and my father who has heart problems.
She moved Jay, her husband across the country at one point and took care of Jay, helped her sister Lois who had developed dementia and cancer while also helping her younger sister, Sue who had developed cancer.
The list goes on right up through Katie"s 80s. She has been a tireless support to others in need while also caring for as many as 3-4 dogs at a time. Some of which had health issues also.
Katie and I had lengthy discussions about animals, people, the environment and of course the power of God in her life.
She was a great support and role model for me all of the years of my life. She inspired me to try to things, develop new goals and to develop aspects of my life that no other adult ever mentioned to me.
I didn't have much as a little girl but Katie would come to visit and have cute little skirts and blouses that she had sewn with her own hands. Very cute too. I especially loved one skirt that had little beagle dogs on it and big pockets to put leaves and things I liked to collect as a child. She made sure it had big pockets because I loved pockets.
I could go on and on. Katie was a remarkable, often selfless and continuously giving person with a heart, spirit and consciousness that could melt anyone.
She stands alone as one of the most remarkable women I have known. God bless your heart, soul and spirit Katie Row. You won your place in heaven long ago.
I love you. I miss you. Thank you Katie, for gracing our lives.
