Ray Curtis Keohen, of Paso Robles, CA, passed away surrounded by family on Friday, March 16, 2018, due to complications brought on by advanced COPD. He was 70 years old. Ray was born to Raymond Francis and Hazel Olive Keohen on November 8, 1947, in Los Angeles, CA, and was raised with his three younger siblings, Sherry Ann, Sally May and Robert Allen, and many aunts, uncles & cousins in Hawthorne, CA.
Ray was always a hard worker, landing his first job as a paper boy at the age of 10. He then worked at the neighborhood market, Stelino’s for a spell as a young teen, but at 17 he landed a job at an electronics company that would take him all the way up to his retirement. Ray was an amazing athlete and in high school he boxed, played baseball and loved to surf the beaches of southern California. He graduated in 1965 from Hawthorne High (Go Cougars!). After high school, he attended El Camino College for about a year, but then went to work full time. He married his high school sweetheart, Cheryl (Bottolfson), on August 6, 1966, and immediately started a family. In 1973, Ray relocated the family up to a small town called San Luis Obispo, CA, to pursue his career at Robison Electronics, where he worked for 40+ years. They raised two children together, a son, Donald Ray and a daughter, Cari Ann. After he & Cheryl divorced, Ray was remarried in 1989 to Lani (Lagomarsino) and our family was blessed with two more children, Gina and Joe Sarullo. Ray loved them like his own. All the while, Dad never let go of his love of athletics and continued playing softball, volleyball, racquetball, jogging, and coaching softball. Ray was very involved in their sports interests and loved watching & coaching them in their elements. Very sadly, in 1990, Ray lost his first born, Donny, to a rare cancer. Ray married his current wife, Hanileta (Annie), on October 14, 2003, which brought three more kids into our lives – Dave, Aina & Trixia .
Ray is survived by his wife of 14 years, Annie; his daughter, Cari Shaw (Jason), step-children, Gina Franco (Gustavo), Joe Sarullo (Cristina), Dave, Aina (Joe), & Trixia Condez; Sisters, Sherry Tarbutton & Sally Keohen; brother, Robert Keohen; grandchildren Carson, Caitlin, Jace, Helio, Bella and baby boy on the way; his beloved nieces, nephews and cousins, and his beloved dogs, Yoyo & Chill. He was preceded in death by his son, Donald; his dad, Raymond; and mother, Hazel.
A memorial service is planned for Thursday, April 12th, 2018, at 11 a.m at Los Osos Memorial Park located at 2260 Los Osos Valley Road, Los Osos, CA 93402. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to a charity of your choice.
