Robert Dean “Bob” Moore passed away May 5, 2022 at his home in Atascadero. He had recently celebrated his 88th birthday.
Bob was born April 19, 1934 in Erwin Tennessee, the 9th of 11 children, to Julia and Rufus Moore. He spent his early childhood in the small town of Erwin. The family eventually moved from Tennessee to the San Francisco area to begin a dry-cleaning business. Bob was a natural athlete who participated in and excelled at many sports and physical activities through school and the YMCA. He attended Polytechnic High School in San Francisco where he played multiple sports, football being his passion. Many decades later (2007) he would be inducted into the San Francisco Prep Hall of Fame for his contribution to the game. Bob went on to play for Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo, CA. Midway through his college career he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Germany for the duration of his service. He returned to Cal Poly on the GI bill to resume his education and football. During this time, he married high school classmate, Emmy Lou Wycoff, in September 1956. Together they would have eight children. Bob became a teacher and coach for the El Paso de Robles School for Boys in Paso Robles, CA., one of several schools operated by the California Youth Authority, which educated and trained juvenile offenders. He eventually transferred to another of the CYA schools, Dewitt Nelson, in Stockton California, where he spent the remainder of his career. He enjoyed skiing, tennis, softball, biking, swimming, the outdoors and golf. He was an avid golfer throughout his adult life and many of his closest friends were fellow golfers.
Upon retirement, Bob moved to the Atascadero area to be close to his children. He was a dedicated father and grandfather. He remained active throughout his life and enjoyed sharing his love of sports and outdoor activities with his family.
