Alan Norwood

Mr. Norwood was born March 4, 1953 in Paris, TN to parents Bettye and William Norwood. He graduated from University of Tennessee in 1975 with a B.S. in electrical engineering. He received his M.A. in education from Hyles-Anderson College in 1979 and his MBA from Florida Institute of Technology in 1998.

He married Wanda Lew at First Baptist Church in Hammond, IN on July 15, 1978, after they met at Hyles-Anderson. Together they moved to Canoga Park, CA, living there two years before moving to Santa Maria, CA, where they lived for eight years before ultimately settling in Athens, AL in 1987.

Alan’s entire adult life was devoted to the aerospace industry, contributing to Delta rocket and Space Shuttle launches, and most recently, NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS). He was an active member of Madison Baptist Church and spent his remaining free time traveling, tutoring internationals in English and furthering his own command of languages.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda; their four children David, Crystal, Carolyn and Daniel; his mother, Bettye and sister Janet Reed.

Visitation will take place on January 7, 2015 at Madison Baptist Church, 840 Balch Rd, at noon, with funeral service starting at 1:30 p.m., followed by a private burial.
