Visitation will be Wednesday January 19, 2022 from 1-3 P.M. at McConnell Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday January 19, 2022 at McConnell Memorial Chapel with Joseph Barnes and Tim Anderson officiating at 3 P.M.
Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens.
He was born October 3, 1931 in Limestone County, AL to William Morris McCown and Minnie Lou Jackson McCown.
Mr. McCown is preceded into death by his parents, one sister Catherine Maples, one brother Curtis McCown, and one son William Alfred McCown.
He was retired from the City of Athens. He was a devout Christian, retired deacon and member of Concord Baptist Church. Mr. McCown was known as “Papaw” to his 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Aside from his family, he loved playing golf, Alabama football and Braves baseball.
He is survived by the love of his life, his loving wife of 72 years, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth McCown of Athens, AL; one daughter Joy Green (Ronny) of Athens; daughter-in-law Vicky McCown; 7 grandchildren Heath McCown, Alisha Green, Mandi Youngblood (Justin), April Crater (John), Melodi Tyler (Nathan), Stacey Hasting, and Corey Hasting (Brittany); 10 great-grandchildren Marli Jacob, Garret Green, Naomi Crater, Neeci Tyler, Joseph Crater, Shaeli Tyler, Isaiah Hasting, Maddix Youngblood, Isaac Hasting, and Zoey Hasting.
Pallbearers will be Garret Green, Nathan Tyler, Corey Hasting, Stacey Hasting, Justin Youngblood, and John Crater.
