Billy Sandy

Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from 1-3 P.M. at First Baptist Church Tanner.

Mr. Sandy passed away Tuesday December 20, 2016 at Athens Limestone Hospital.

He was born February 15, 1927 in Lawrence County, AL to John and Lucy Sandy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Martha, one son Jimmy Sandy and several brothers and sisters.

Mr. Sandy served as the State Commissioner and South Eastern Regional Director for Babe Ruth Baseball and was also on the Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken National Board of Directors. He retired from Monsanto Chemical Plant in Decatur, AL and enjoyed owning and operating Sandy's Greenhouse & Nursery in Tanner, AL. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Mr. Sandy was a member of First Baptist Church Tanner, where he served as a Deacon.

He is survived by one son Johnny (John) Sandy and wife Patty of Tanner, AL; grandson Scott Sandy and wife Kelli, granddaughter Jada Thomas and husband Matt; step grandson Johnny Childers, great grandsons Shaw and Sam Sandy, Jack, Max, and Rowe Thomas, and step great grandson Hunter Childers, one brother John Sandy.

Pallbearers will be Scott Sandy, Matt Thomas, Shaw Sandy, Johnny Childers, Randy White, and Henry White.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Sam Sandy, Jack Thomas, Max Thomas, Rowe Thomas and Hunter Childers.
