
The funeral for the Rev. Calvin C. Inman, 86, of Athens will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Sardis Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Keenum and Jack Bailey officiating. The body will be in the church Monday from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. today at McConnell Funeral Home.
The Rev. Calvin C. Inman, of Limestone County, passed away Friday, Dec. 30, 2011.
Brother Inman was born July 25, 1925, in Water Valley, Miss., to Willie Houston and Vera Caroline Inman. After graduating from Jeff Davis High School in Water Valley, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943. He served our country in World War II as a flight engineer, top turret gunner, and staff sergeant. After his service ended he worked as an auto mechanic until 1951 when he answered the Lord's call to preach.
He graduated from Mississippi College in 1954 and attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where he graduated with a Masters of Divinity degree in 1957. During his ministry of 37 years he served as pastor for: Simmons Memorial Mission, Flora, Miss.; Friendship Baptist Church, Natchez, Miss.; Walnut Baptist Church, Vance, Miss.; Evergreen Baptist Church, Louisville, Miss.; Sardis Springs Baptist Church, Athens; West Marks Baptist Church, Marks, Miss.; and East Highland Baptist Church, Hartselle. He then retired from Sardis Springs Baptist Church in 1989.
During his years of service to the Lord he participated in many mission trips including Israel, Columbia, and Zambia. He also served on the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions as an area consultant in the 1990s.
Rev. Inman is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lucile Crouch Inman, son, Stephen Inman, both of Athens; and sister, Nalda Oakes of Clarksdale, Miss.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Maxwell Inman and Houston Inman.
Brother Inman was well loved by his church families and will be known by his favorite Bible verse, "Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my Strength and my Redeemer, Psalm 19:14." His favorite hymns were "Haven of Rest" and "Since Jesus Came Into My Heart."
The family requests that donations be made to Sardis Springs Baptist Church building fund or Alzheimer's Research.
