A retired teacher, Carmela was born in Alabama, raised in Jersey City, and resided in Wanamassa for more than 43 years.
Surviving is her beloved husband of 45 years, Gail Burd; devoted daughters, Heather Bella and Shannon Burd; her cherished grandchildren, Rachael, Jordan, and Rowan; her dear sister, Helen Polensek; brothers, Louis and Walter Padulo; her niece, Natasha Polensek; and nephews, Robert and Joseph Padulo, and David Polensek.
Carmela was born Dec. 22, 1939, in Athens, the daughter of Louis and Helen Yarbrough Padulo, both deceased, and her cremains will be buried alongside them in the family burial plot in Athens City Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects from 11 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. today at McConnell Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Carl Evans, her cousin.
