

Carnell Coffman Thorne passed away Sunday, October 5, 2025, in Athens, Alabama. She was born in Athens on July 18, 1924, and was 101 years old. Her parents were Thomas Jesse Coffman and Grace McGuire Coffman.
Mrs. Thorne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of sixty-one years, James Everett (Pete) Thorne, son, Tommy Thorne, daughter, Darby Thorne Pettus, three brothers, and three sisters.
She is survived by three children, Marian Pickett and Ray, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, Ronnie Thorne and Teresa, Somerville, Alabama, Peggy Thorne Nuss and Al, Athens, Alabama, along with fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs.Thorne lived much of her married life in Pulaski and Minor Hill, Tennessee before moving to Athens in 2007. She worked as a lab and X-Ray technician at Physicians and Surgeons in Pulaski where she was better known as "Thorny." She was a member of Minor Hill Baptist Church and later Salem Springs Baptist Church.
Mrs. Thorne never lost her zeal for life even though she outlived all her siblings, her husband, and two of her children. Her spunk and sassiness followed her up to the very last few days of her life, and she will be greatly missed.
Visitation for Mrs. Carnell Thorne will be on Wednesday, October 8, from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. followed by chapel service at 1:00 P.M. at McConnell Funeral Home with Toby Powell officiating. Burial will be at New Salem Cemetery, Lester, Alabama.
Pallbearers will be Chris Thorne, Corey Thorne, Jon Pickett, Jason Pickett, Josh Sanders, Trent Pettus, and Troy Nuss.
