Mr. Yarbrough, known by his nickname Snort, was born in a one room log cabin in Limestone County in September of 1929 to Jess and Mabel Kennedy Yarbrough. He married his childhood sweetheart, Annie Ruth Laxson in May of 1951. He was inducted into the Army soon thereafter and left for Korea. He served honorably and earned citations, including a bronze star for Meritorious Service. His career years included working for Hendricks-Patton, Chemstrand/Monsanto, and Amoco/BP. He retired and took up the hobby of caning chair bottoms and spent many hours researching and documenting family genealogy. As a long-time member of Isom’s Chapel Church, he had a hand in building the family life center addition.
Survivors include three children: Ann Smith and husband Richard; Don Yarbrough and wife Trudi; Yvonne Chadick and husband Bill. One sister: Elain Rose and husband Gene. Five grandchildren: Charles, Carolyn, Laura, Keisha, and Josh. Five great-grandchildren: Clayton, Abby, Peter, Draven, and Varus. Two nephews: Terry and Marc. One niece: Regina.
A graveside service with military honors will be Friday, June 29, 2018 at 11 am at Isom’s Chapel Church Cemetery. There will be a friends and family gathering after the service in the Church Family Life Center.
Pallbearers will be Charles Smith, Josh Chadick, Clayton Smith, Terry Yarbrough, Robert Smith, Dave Wood, and Peter Smith (honorary).
