

Connie was preceded in death by her parents - Albert Dudley Barksdale and Beatrice Carwile Barksdale both died in 1968. At 22 years of age, she quickly moved from Tampa, Florida and vacated her teaching position to assume the responsibility as Legal Guardian for Jennifer 18 years old and A.D. 12 years of age, until they reached 21.
She is survived by her brother Albert Dudley (A.D.) Barksdale, Jr. (Sara) of Athens, Alabama and sister Jennifer Barksdale Blanken of Garner, North Caroline (Howard).
In addition she had three, nephews: Jonathan Christopher Blanken of Cary, North Carolina (Heather), Jeffrey Howard Blanken of Mount Olive, North Caroline (Christine), James Phillip Dunnavant (Bridget) of Cypress, Texas. Nieces: Jennifer Amanda Blanken Barrett of Garner, North Caroline, Ashley Summer Barksdale Todd of Athens, Alabama, and Allison Delana Barksdale Franks (Justin) of Athens, Alabama.
Great nephews: Joseph Dudley Barrett of Garner, North Caroline, James Timothy Clem Dunnavant of Cypress, Texas, Braxton Andrew Todd of Athens, Alabama, James Alexander (Jay) Franks of Athens, Alabama, and Easton Wayne Franks of Athens, Alabama.
Great nieces: Jessica Elizabeth Barrett of Garner, North Caroline, Allie Ruth Dunnavant of Cypress, Texas, Anna Kate Dunnavant of Cypress, Texas, Vivienne Rose Blanken, Victoria Grace Blanken of Cary, North Caroline and Cora Lu Todd of Athens, Alabama.
Connie Graduated Athens High School 1964 and received the Betty Crocker Award for Highest GPA in Home Economics. BS Home Economics, Florence State, MS Ed, Alabama A&M University. She taught Home Economics/Consumer Science for 42 years at East Limestone School in Athens, AL. Honors: Past President ADK Teachers Sorority, Member of TOPS, Retired Teachers Association, Member of Parade of Homes, Member of Garden Club, and various volunteer groups. She was an active member of Central Church of Christ in Athens, Alabama. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends along with gardening, cooking, sewing, and reading. Her greatest joy was helping others and was always on call to help when needed. Connie’s heart and unselfishness will be missed by many.
Celebration of Life services will be held at McConnell Funeral Home located in Athens, Alabama on Saturday November 16, 2024 at 12 o’clock with visitation at 11 o’clock. Justin Moore Minister of Central Church of Christ and Jim Ellis of Athens will be officiating.
