He was born in Morgan County and graduated from Morgan County High School. He was a member Clements Baptist Church in Athens. He served in the Air Force. He worked for Teledyne Brown for many years before he and his wife, Gailya, became the proprietors of Turner’s Grocery in the Ripley Community. Retiring in 1987, he began actively volunteering with various mission organizations including building wheelchair ramps with CASA, delivering donations to Redbird Missionary Conference and sorting Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Shoeboxes at the collection facility.
He is survived by his daughter, Teresa (Wesley) Brown of Athens and granddaughter, Terry Brown of Huntsville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gailya Terry, parents, William and Ida Terry, his sisters, Sibyl Thompson, Violet Cook, Martha Singleton, and Judy Clayton, his brothers, Bill Terry and Thurman Terry, and his grandson, Bryan Brown.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 13, 2026, at McConnell Funeral Home from 10:00 am until 11:00 am with the funeral services at 11:00 a m in the chapel, with Caleb Gooch officiating. Burial will follow at Ripley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jess Black, Jimmy Downs, Tim Gee, Tony Morris, Pat Williamson, and Tony Yerbey.
