

on November 27, 2025. in her 95th year. Born January 29, 1931 in Cullman, Alabama, she lived in Alabama, Ohio and Michigan before returning
home to Athens in 1971. Her husband of almost
68 years, Charles Hugo, preceded her in death in 2017. Dorothy was also preceded in death by two sons, Charles Dwight and Kenneth Hugo; her parents, Arley and Delma Eddy, brothers Jack, Norman, Frank and Don Eddy, and two sisters, Verna Gora and Carol Scharer.
Dorothy's main joy and focus was on her family, and she leaves many to keep her memory alive. They include her children Larry (Peggy) of Rogersville, AL, Patricia (David) Knutson of Coldwater, Ontario, and Timothy (Ann), of Madison, AL. She was known as "Gram" to her 11 grandchildren, Derek (Adylinda) Adams, Kevin Adams, Nicole (Tim) Reed, Eric (Sarah) Knutson, Ian (Alisha) Knutson, Brad Adams, Melissa (Daniel) Drawbond, Byron Chu, David Chu, Amanda Chu and Brent Chu. She was proud of each of her 17 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves 3 brothers, Bill (Liz), Bowling Green, Ohio, Charlie, Xenia, Ohio, and Bob (Lynn) Eddy, Sevierville, TN. There are many nieces and nephews as well.
Dorothy was a member of Tanner Church of Christ for many years, where Hugo was an elder. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper, and in retail sales during her working years, as well as being a full time mother. She will be remembered for her quiet and kind manner, and her love of family and friends. Her greatest joy was travelling with Hugo to every U.S. state, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Belize, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Canada. They loved to travel in their R.V., fishing along the way, and enjoying unusual sights.
Pallbearers will be Derek Adams, Kevin Adams, Chris Stanford, Martin Elgar, Daniel Drawbond, and Brad Adams.
A service to honor her life will be held on December 1, 2025 at McConnell's Funeral Home, Athens, AL. Family and friends will welcomed for visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m., and a funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Reunion Cemetery, Athens, AL.
