Gordon Bowers of Limestone County passed away July 13, 2018. He was a blessing to those who were fortunate enough to have known him. Gordon was truly the type of man who would give the shirt off his back for friends and strangers alike; he would especially drop everything to help his kids with broken sinks, cars and hearts; a dad to be admired. In a loving marriage for 40+ years, he was an incredible husband.
He had a passion for music and could easily tell you most of the names of the songwriters and who played or wrote a specific riff. Gordon felt it was important that you always know who the person behind the scene was whether it was the songwriter, a technician, the janitor, etc.
Gordon was highly respected in the industry in which he worked as a research analyst. He spent 25 years at Monsanto in Pensacola and 23 years at Shell Technology Center in Houston. He had a reputation for thinking outside the box, getting the job done, and making sure the equipment necessary to get the job done was well cared for. One of the most mechanical men ever made, Gordon was a joy to watch work whether working on a large project for his employer, doing odd jobs around the house, or working on one of his old trucks.
To celebrate the joys and blessings of having had him in their lives, Gordon leaves behind his beloved wife, Mary, son David (Brandy), daughter Debbie, son Chris (Kim), granddaughters Nadia and Emily Bowers, Jenny (Ryan) Gladden, a sister Judy (Don) Barksdale, and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Gordon’s life will be held at McConnell Funeral Home in Athens, Alabama at 1 pm on Thursday, July 19th with visitation one hour prior to the service. For those who wish to honor Gordon’s life, please consider giving to Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of your choice.
