

A lifelong resident of Limestone County, he was a long-time member of First Church of Athens and a current member of LifeGate Church in Madison. After graduating from Ardmore High School, he served in the US Army as an E-5 stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. James graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Athens State College.
He retired after 28 years at Monsanto as a lab technician. He ran a successful tax business with his wife serving Limestone County for more than 30 years. He and his wife loved to travel, especially on cruises.
After retirement, he was an active member in Limestone County RSVP and loved to attend events at his church, the senior center, and Veterans Museum.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 12th at McConnell Funeral Home from 1-2:50pm. A chapel service will be held at 3pm with Rev. Kendall Penton officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.
He is survived by his son, Michael Silas (Tracy); daughters, Deborah Terry (Steve) and Denise Silas (Margie); grandchildren: Lauren Cagle (John), Ashton Anders (Charlie), and Nathan Silas (Brianna); great-grandchildren: Isaac James Brunson, Emily Elizabeth Brunson, Oakley Rae Anders, Oscar Todd Anders; and brother, Joe Silas.
Preceding him in death are his wife of 67 years, Doris Eveline Thomas; parents, Vinard Dean and Kathereen Pollitz Silas; and brothers, Rufus Silas, and Harold Silas.
