

Mr. Whitt was born on August 30, 1942, in Athens, AL, to Johnnie Sr. and Nameless Butler Whitt.
He was a Vietnam veteran, a Deacon at Decatur Baptist Church, and co-owner/founder of Decatur Communications.
Visitation will be Wednesday June 7th at McConnell Funeral Home from 1:30-3:30pm. A chapel service will be at 3:30pm with Bro. Doug Ripley officiating, and Bro. Joe McCaig, Bro. Rex Terry and Bro. Danny Holmes sharing thoughts and memories.
Pallbearers will be Dewayne Helms, Joe Muncy, John Carwile, Billy Johnson, Bill Lee and Benny Sivley. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Decatur Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested to make a donation to the Decatur Baptist Church Mission Fund, First Priority, or Sleep in Heavenly Peace funds.
His wife, Martha, joined him on Sunday. He is survived by his son, James Whitt (Charity); daughter, Joan Pirtle (Michael); brother, Johnnie Whitt, Jr.; sisters, Judy Carter and Betty Johnson; grandchildren: Chris Pirtle, Whitney Dover (Will), Elizabeth Strickland (Jesse), Lydia Johnston (Alex), Julia Whitt, Jonathan Whitt, Meagan Whitt, John David Whitt and James Whitt; great-grandchildren: Kylar Dover, Reece Dover, Kannon Dover, Carolyn Strickland and Emily Jordan; and daughter-in-law, Melissa Whitt.
Preceding him in death are his parents; son, Michael Jade Whitt; and sister, Cathy Haynes.
