Mrs. Christopher was born September 16, 1920, in Athens, Al. to the late Alexander Lafayette Clem and Julia Keyes Clem. She retired in 1971 from NASA, after having served as technical editor for 22 years to members of the famed science team that pioneered the Space program, headed by Dr Werner Von Braun, Dr Ernst Stuhlinger and Professor Hermann Oberth. She was an accomplished pianist and organist. She loved to travel and was an avid reader, especially of the Bible. She was a devoted and deeply spiritual Christian matriarch to her family.
Ruth (as she was known to family and friends) communicated beautifully and always with great wit and a very special charm. That charm and wit and warmth remains behind in the hearts of those who have known and loved her. The comfort of knowing that her soul is taking that final, blessed journey that she longed for, must now serve as consolation for the loss of her sweet smile and loving manner.
She leaves behind her loving husband, of 69 years, James H. Christopher of Athens, a son William N. Christopher (and wife Belinda) , of Rogersville, a daughter , Julia Lynn, of Birmingham, AL., five grandchildren, seven great –grandchildren. ….and a Legacy of Serene Gentleness.
Services for Mrs Christopher are provided by McConnell Funeral Home, 1200 Forrest Street, Athens AL. with visitation at 12:30- 1:30 pm on Monday, November 10, 2014 and a Graveside Service immediately following at 2:00pm at Roselawn Cemetery. Pastor Eddie Gooch will officiate.
