Joseph Michael Mandarino (89), of Athens, Alabama, peacefully passed away on October 1, 2021. Joe was born April 18, 1932, in Detroit and lived predominantly in Michigan. Joe spent his entire career in the printing industry, culminating in the ownership of his own print shop, which he retired from in 1994. He moved to Alabama in 2005. Joe loved golf, hotdogs, and The Hallmark Channel, among other things, and was a devoted man of both family and faith. With a broad range of home-improvement skills and a never-ending passion for helping family, friends, neighbors, and fellow parishioners, Joe could usually be found wearing a toolbelt and helping improve the lives and locales around him. Joe was an active volunteer at LCCI foodbank and with the local Knights of Columbus.
Joe leaves behind his loving wife of 45 years, Sandy, and children, Joetta Mandarino, Nanette (Joseph) Ellis, Mary (Steve) Orr, Roseann (Jeffrey) Daudlin, Ruthann Ellis, Dawn Karvinen, and Mark (Patty) Karvinen. “Papa Joe,” “Papa,” “Grandpa,” “Papa Far,” and “Little Papa” will also be greatly missed by 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren (and one more on the way).
He is survived by his brother, Bruno Andreoli and predeceased by his sisters, Angela, Bessie, and Annie and his brothers, Sam and Carm.
Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at 11:00 am at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1900 US Highway 72 West, Athens AL, 35611
