Ms. Rose passed away Saturday, November 4, 2023 at home.
Ms. Rose was born April 23, 1944 in Limestone County to Thomas Emmet Marbut Jr., and Willodean Page Marbut. Ms. Rose grew up in Marbut Hollow where she enjoyed time playing with her family, working in the garden, and eating snacks from her Daddy’s store. She enjoyed her school days and the band at West Limestone so much that she was inspired to attend Florence State Teachers College, which is now (UNA) RoarLions! She obtained her teaching degrees and spent most of the following forty years teaching and investing into the lives of her students. Affectionately known to some as “Old Mrs. Rose” and to others unaffectionately known. She verbalized many times what a great time it was to be at West Limestone during the years she taught. She also enjoyed participating in Delta Kappa Gamma and the Retired Teachers group for Athens and Limestone County.
Ms. Rose had a ministry of presence at Salem Springs Baptist Church. She served her Lord Jesus well teaching children, singing in the choir, and praying for missionaries around the world who spread the Gospel of Christ. When her memory was failing she never lost her desire to read God’s word and pray for her church to stand firm and continue God’s work. Being Mama Joyce was her last beautiful work. Although she was battling a cruel disease, she poured out her heart to August Pearl. Many hours they spent playing school and swinging outside together. She even tolerated Luke – August’s cat some days better than others. So memories would be made between them before her memory was taken from her.
Ms. Rose was preceded in death by her husband Aaron Griggs Rose and her mother and father.
Ms. Rose is survived by her daughter Page Benson and son in law Brad Benson and granddaughter August Pearl Benson. Daughter in Christ Shelia Malone Evans (James and Tamyra), a loving and devoted brother Lyndon Marbut, three sisters whom she cherished Marie King, Brenda McMasters, and Diane Jackson. Forever Friends who walked with her through life's ups and downs ~becoming mom to Page and Grandma to August when she could no longer take an active part in doing so Phyllis Campbell, Jessica Christopher, Evelyn Cox, and Pam Hall, Caregiver Bettye Ivey, Special Nephew Andy Collier and Linda, Treasured niece Dixie Harrison, Beloved cousin Jason Marbut, And a Host of other nephews, nieces and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Eugene Blakely, David Blankenship, Johnny Campbell, Zac Campbell, Jeff Craig, Ronnie Ridgeway, and Barry Thompson.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Salem Springs Baptist Church designated Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.
Psalm 27:4
One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple.
