

Judy was born to Robert Henry and Hortence Langston Lackey on February 18, 1943.
Judy met and married the love of her life, Billy John Haywood, on April 5, 1962. Together they had two children, Billy and Carol. While her children were still in high school, Judy graduated from Athens State University with a degree in English education. Judy went on to teach English, History, Science and Bible for many years. Bill and Judy served in church ministry together for over 30 years and went on to have four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Judy loved nothing more than creating and saving memories with her loved ones. If she was not off on one adventure or another with friends and family, she would often be found among her beloved craft group scrapbooking those memories.
Judy was predeceased by her mother and father, her loving husband, Bill, her brother Charles Lackey, and her daughter-in-law, Sabrina Haywood.
She is survived by her children, Billy Haywood, Carol (Kenny) Newsome, her sisters Katherine (Frank) Newborn, Jean (Robert) Reed and her sister-in-law Brenda Lackey. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Andrew (Courtney) Newsome, Joshua (Kyra) Newsome, Rustin (Katherine) Haywood and Autumn (Chase) Haywood, her three great-grandchildren, Liam, Oliver and Odin. She leaves behind a host of other loving family members and friends.
She was much loved and respected in every context and will be dearly missed.
Services will be held at McConnell Funeral Home in Athens, Alabama. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023, 6-8 PM with the funeral service on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 10:00. Judy will be laid to rest at Midway Memorial Gardens in Talladega, Alabama, on December 30, 2023, at 3:00 PM.
Pallbearers: Andrew Newsome, Joshua Newsome, Rustin Haywood, Chase Baker, Tommy Newborn and Jeremy Reed.
