Robert (Bob) Baker, age 92, passed away on September 30, 2025, surrounded by family while in comfort care at Madison Hospital. Visitation will be held at Athens First Methodist Church Chapel on October 17 at 2:00 p.m., with a memorial service and interment of ashes to follow at 3:00 p.m.
Mr. Baker was a member of Athens First Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Auburn University Alumni Association. A Korean War era veteran, he retired in 1990 as an engineer and manager with NASA, Marshall Space Flight Center, receiving numerous citations and service awards during his time there. Mr. Baker was formerly of Huntsville, Ardmore and Athens and grew up in the Boaz area of Etowah County, Alabama.
Parents, Perry and Bessie Baker; wife, Margaret O. Baker; sisters, Selma Noojin and Frances Crosley; brothers, James Baker and John Baker; and son-in-law, Ernie Meinecke, preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons, Bob Baker (Janet Hunt) and Michael Baker (Anne); daughters, Deborah Baker and Michelle Baker Weathers (Jon); grandsons, Lee Meinecke (Tonya), Matthew Meinecke (Chelsea), Brian Nelson (Carly); granddaughter, Samantha Baker (Karl Noss); great-grandsons, Cole and Parker Nelson; special friend, Betty Roberts, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert enjoyed his life and his work. During his earlier retirement years, he enjoyed traveling with Margaret and playing golf with his buddies. In later years he resided at Madison At the Range Assisted Living where he enjoyed reading, watching Auburn football, and playing poker and Mexican Train dominoes. He lived with faith in God and love for his country and fellow man.
