Sue Butler Beaty, 79, was born on March 8, 1947, a snowy day in Humbolt, TN, to Elmer Marshall and Margaret Duggin Butler. Sue went home to be with her LORD on July 2, 2026. She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Welton Chris Beaty, along with their children and spouses: Steven Curt Beaty (Samantha), Tanya Leigh Beaty Dutton (David), and Timothy Clay Butler Beaty (Ayumi). Their love for her carries on through their hearts and Sue's 15 grandchildren: Grace, Patrick, Nathanial, Susanna, Welt, Vista, and Colter Beaty; Andrew, Madison, Clay, and Emma Dutton; Joshua, Penelope, Grant, and Lewis Beaty. If you were around "Sue Sue" for more than a few minutes, you heard something about her beloved grandchildren. She adored them, and they felt the same about her. Sue's love and light will be forever remembered by her sisters, Kay Rush and Sally Wilcox, brother-in-law John Rush (Kay), sister-in-law Rebecca Beaty, her many nieces and nephews, and countless loved ones and friends.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Marshall and Margaret Belle (Duggin) Butler; brothers Dean, Charles and James Edward Butler; mother-in-law Henrietta Patrea (Claussen) Beaty; father-in-law Welton Cleo Beaty; brothers-in-law Gary Wilcox (Sally), Clyde Beaty, and Wayne Beaty (Rebecca); sister-in-law Deanie Butler (Charles); nephew Kent Wilcox, and nephew-in-law Brian Schaefer (Keri). We find comfort in knowing they are now together in heavenly peace.
Sue grew up in Tullahoma, TN, graduated from Tullahoma High School and studied business at MTSU. She and Chris met in 1966 while he was a co-op student working in Tullahoma, and they were married on June 28, 1969. Together, they built a blessed life in Trussville, AL where they raised their children before returning to Sue’s hometown upon Chris’s retirement. Sue and Chris were proud owners of The Butler’s Pantry in Tullahoma, but eventually relocated to Madison, AL to be closer to their grandchildren and more centrally located among their family and friends.
Sue was a longtime member of Wall Highway Baptist Church of Madison, AL where she was involved in the Senior Ministry. Some of her favorite pastimes were cooking, playing cards (especially Rook!), cheering on her Auburn Tigers and grandchildren, and spending time with family and friends. Sue was incredibly generous and had an amazing ability to find ways to bless and encourage others. Sue loved and was loved by all. We will miss her boundless energy and the way she always made us laugh, but we celebrate her heavenly homecoming. Sue's gift was her ability to make everyone feel like a best friend, and that legacy will endlessly echo in the lives of those she touched.
The Celebration of Life for Sue Beaty will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at Wall Highway Baptist Church in Madison, AL, with a visitation from 12pm to 2pm, and service beginning at 2pm. The family requests colorful attire to honor Sue’s vibrant personality.
