

Thomas Craig Lile, Sr., age 87, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on Monday, February 28. Tom was born in Leighton, Alabama to John Minor Lile and Helen Craig Lile on January 4, 1935. He went to school in Leighton and spent his last 2 years of high school at Columbia Military Academy in Columbia, Tennessee. He attended the University of Alabama where he received Bachelors and Masters degrees in Geology. He met the love of his life, Susan, at the University. They married in 1960. He enjoyed a long career as Director of the Student Unions at the University of Alabama, Virginia Tech and LSU before retiring to Mandeville, Louisiana where he enjoyed many years of fishing and golfing. In 2006, he and Susan moved to Birmingham to be closer to family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, John Minor Lile, and sister, Virginia Lile Beck. He is survived by his wife, Susan, children Caroline Holub (Eric), Catherine Collins (Phil), and Tom Jr. Grandchildren Andy Holub, Jack Holub (Kelsey), Robbie Holub, Ashley Saunders (David), Luke Collins (Jaris), and Ben Collins (Margaret) and great grandchildren Addison, Witt, Hart, Lucy, Darren and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses that provided him with such loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Briarwood Presbyterian Church, the World Missions fund.
