He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Shirley Porter.
Survivors include his two sons, Jim Aldrich and wife Sara of Madison, AL, Peter Aldrich and wife Dalila of College Station, TX; one grandchild, James W. Aldrich and wife Patty; and five great-grandchildren.
There are a variety of ways to describe the lengthy and fruitful life of Wes Aldrich. However, the people who knew him best would unanimously agree on two descriptions: family man and basketball coach.
Wes cherished his family, especially the amazing 58 years he had with the love of his life, Elaine. They modeled marriage for others. He loved his two sons, his grandson and his grandchildren. He loved his extended family. Wes never aimed to be the life of the party – but his presence was always welcomed by family and friends.
Wes was also born to be a basketball coach. The gymnasium was his classroom. Whether it was head coach or assistant, high school or college, men or women, Wes taught fundamentals and inspired his players to be successful in life. Former players, some in their 60s, routinely point to Wes’ influence in their lives before mentioning basketball.
Well done, family man and coach.
