Alexander "Sandy" MacKenzie

Alexander "Sandy" MacKenzie, 81, died Tuesday, September 1, 2026. A native of New York and born on April 16, 1945, Alex was a veteran of the United States Army and grew up in the moving business, where his family owned Scarsdale Van, Moving and Storage Company.

Building on that foundation with steady purpose, he went on to start Fort Lauderdale Moving and Storage Company and was affiliated with Mayflower Van Lines, dedicating his working life to the demanding, practical work of helping others move forward.

Alex was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander MacKenzie and Victoria DeSilva MacKenzie; his wife, Patricia Jean Johnson MacKenzie; and his sister, Barbara Brauman. He and his wife met while they both were vacationing in Switzerland, a beginning that remained a meaningful part of their family story.

He is survived by his daughters, Julee Schoenfeld (Gordon), Jennifer MacKenzie, and Alexis Dickerson (Andrew); and five grandchildren, Ryan, Connor and Amelia Schoenfeld and MacKenzie and Everett Dickerson.

When he wasn’t working, Alex found genuine satisfaction in the rhythms of home and family life—coaching his daughters’ sports teams and mowing his lawn—quiet, faithful acts that reflected his enduring devotion to those he loved.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, September 13, at 2:30 p.m., in Oconee Hill Cemetery, with Rev. Deb Trimpe officiating.
