
Amanda Slay Summerville was born on September 4, 1948, in Covington to the late Manley Clark Slay and Algie Mae West Slay and passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of perseverance, strength, and love.
Amanda was a beloved member of her family and community. Throughout her life, she faced challenges with remarkable grit and unwavering determination, meeting each obstacle with quiet courage and resilience. Known for her compassion, kindness, and steadfast spirit, she was a devoted sister and loyal friend who could always be counted on for support, encouragement, and care. Her strength was not loud, but it was constant, inspiring those who knew her and providing comfort to those she loved.
Amanda retired in 2018 from the University of Georgia, where she dedicated many years of service as an accountant in the Department of English. She approached her work with diligence, integrity, and a commitment to excellence that reflected the same determination she carried throughout her life.
She is survived by her dear friend, Kristie Sartain. Amanda was preceded in death by her beloved sisters, Romeaser Slay Lewellen and Penny Bloodworth, whose memories she carried close to her heart.
In accordance with Amanda’s wishes, no formal service will be held. Her ashes will be scattered at sea alongside those of her sister, Romeaser, honoring their enduring bond and the lifelong connection they shared.
