Barbara “Bobbie” Faulkner, surrounded by her family, peacefully went to be with the Lord on October 27, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Gary Faulkner, her parents, Aubreia and Meredith Shy, and son-in-law Timothy Wallace.
Barbara is survived by her brother, David Shy (Betsy); her five children, Becki Bishop (John), Ken Faulkner (Dianne), Lori Wallace Loyd (Mark), Pam McLeroy (John), and Meredith Olds (Rick); eleven grandchildren, Bridget, Jeremiah, Joshua, Brooke, William, Casey, Daniel, Katie, Brian, Robin, and Samantha; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Raised in Huntington, West Virginia, Barbara met Gary, the love of her life. Early in their marriage, they moved to Florida, where they raised their five children. Several years later, she settled in Athens, Georgia, to be close to her mother. She eventually moved to Watkinsville, Georgia, where she lived in the same subdivision as three of her daughters.
Barbara held several roles throughout her lifetime. She retired from DuPont after 20 years of service and also worked at Cardiac Rehab, where she later became a volunteer. However, her most joyous roles were those of devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was admired by all for her graciousness, trustworthiness, resilience, and spunkiness, but above all, for her unconditional love.
She was a member of Watkinsville First United Methodist Church for many years and most recently attended Faith Presbyterian Church. She loved to dance and, later in life, was part of a square-dancing group. She also loved to play cards and was a bit competitive. She liked to win but mostly enjoyed the fellowship.
When the Georgia Bulldogs were playing, she was watching. Her grandson would always exclaim, “You are a classy lady, except during football season!” She spent countless hours attending her grandchildren’s many activities and performances. They always knew their Gamama would be there for them and would be among the first to tell them how wonderfully they had done.
A memorial service will be held Monday, November 2, at 1:00 p.m., in the Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
