Betty Jean Lanier Gibson

Born in Duplin County, Beulaville, North Carolina, Betty was a lifelong believer in the value of education and learning. She attended Beulaville High School before continuing her academic journey at East Carolina University, where she earned her Master's Degree in Education, 40 years as school psychologist and in retirement volunteered as Guardian Ad Litem for the court system.

Betty is the daughter of Raleigh Lanier and Minnie Frances Lanier of Beulaville, both founding members of Beulaville Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her son, Jim Gibson and daughter-in-law, Melanie; grandchildren: Brandon and Jennifer Gibson, Joshua and Allison Gibson, Marianne Gibson and Caitlin Gibson; and great-grandchildren: McClain, Brantley and Chase.

Betty dedicated her life to learning, service, and the people she loved. She will be remembered for her kindness, wisdom, and the unwavering love she shared with her family and friends. Her gentle spirit, generous heart, and enduring faith touched the lives of all who knew her, leaving a legacy that will continue for generations.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family, friends, former students and colleagues, and all whose lives were enriched by her compassion and grace.

A celebration of Betty's life will be announced by the family. In the meantime, they ask that those who knew and loved her remember her by sharing kindness with others and cherishing time with family.
