Birdie Celeste Johnson Craft

Born in Thomson, Mrs. Craft was the daughter of the late Phocian S. Johnson Sr. and Lena E. Hobbs Johnson. She worked in education for 33 years, 25 of those years in Clarke County. Mrs. Craft was a member of the Athens Woman’s Club and a sister of Alpha Delta Kappa sorority. She was also a member of Young Harris Memorial United Methodist Church for over 60 years where she attended the Seekers Sunday School Class.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Bryan C. Craft Sr., of Athens; sons, Bryan C. Craft Jr. (Cornelia Lemke) of Athens and Phocian Blake Craft Sr. (Sherrie T.) of Conyers; sister, Sarah Pruitt of Washington; grandchildren, Phocian Blake Craft Jr. of LaGrange and Brooke Craft of Ft. Myers, FL; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 4, at 11:30 a.m., at Young Harris Memorial United Methodist Church, with Rev. Alan Smith and Dr. Luis Ortiz officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. A reception will be held following the interment in the church fellowship hall.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 3, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Bernstein Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to a charity of choice.
