Born in Brooklyn, NY, Mrs. Mayes was a daughter of the late William and Marie Romaine Perlman. She was a homemaker and preceded in death by her parents and husband, James Lawton Mayes.
Survivors include children, Rebecca Ross (Alan) and James Mayes, all of Athens; and sister, Cookie Caufman of Washington state.
