Carol Ann White, 78, of Athens, Georgia, passed away on October 13, 2026. Born February 1, 1948, in Jericho, Vermont, Carol was the daughter of the late Floyd Leon White and the late Ruth Helen Ormston, who divorced when she was five years old.
Carol pursued her education with purpose and discipline. After high school, she graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1969 with a B.A. in Political Science, along with a minor in French and Secondary Education. She continued her studies at Florida State University, earning an M.S.L.S. in Information Science, and later completed her formal education at the University of Georgia in 1977, receiving an Education Specialist degree in School Supervision.
Carol’s professional life reflected a rare breadth of talent—uniting education, athletics, leadership, and service. From 1970 to 1985, she worked at Monroe High School in Albany, Georgia, where she served as librarian, assistant football coach, and as a statistician and scout for various sports.
In 1985, Carol began her career at the Georgia Institute of Technology. From 1985 to 1989, she served as an assistant football coach, a role in which she made history as the only woman to ever coach football at the NCAA FBS Division Level (Georgia Tech) and as the first female member of the American Football Coaches Association. She later served Georgia Tech as a reference librarian from 1989 to 1993, as adjunct faculty, within the Success Program from 1992 to 1996, and as coordinator of PreSeason (Freshman Orientation). Her work was marked by steady excellence and a commitment to helping others learn, prepare, and thrive.
Beyond her institutional roles, Carol’s leadership extended into organizations she guided for decades. She served as president of Schools for Kicking and Punting Instruction and Kick-Aid, Inc. from 1987 until her death, and as president of Leadership Development Associates from 1993 until her death. Nationally recognized as a clinician and speaker at football coaches' meetings, Carol also served as owner and director of football camps and clinics for athletes and coaches, sharing knowledge with clarity, rigor, and generosity.
Carol’s faith and community connections were enduring. In 1986, she became a member of Northside United Methodist Church in Atlanta, where she was a member of the Chancel Choir. She also held membership in numerous professional and civic organizations, including the Academy of Management; American Association of University Women; American Football Coaches Association; American Library Association; American Psychological Association; Georgia Association of Educators; Georgia Athletic Coaches Association; Georgia Library Association; Georgia Women's Intersport Network; National Association of Female Executives; National Education Association; Fellowship of Christian Athletes; Pilot International, Classic City Chapter; and the Quarterback Club, University of Georgia.
A Memorial Service is being planned following football season.
