Dr. Charles Benjamin Lord

Born in Jefferson, Dr. Lord was the son of Dr. Columbus Boley Lord and Lunice Hutchinson Lord. A United States Navy veteran, Dr. Lord retired as Associate Director of the Georgia Center for Continuing Education at the University of Georgia and served as a consultant for the Georgia School Boards Association for approximately 10 years. Additionally, Dr. Lord was the founder of the Foundation for Excellence in Public Education in Clarke County. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

In addition to his parents, Dr. Lord was preceded in death by his daughter, Dr. Linda Miriam Lord.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Murry Lord of Jacksonville; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Angela Lord of Jacksonville; and a grandson, Benjamin Lord.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 29, at 12:00 p.m., at the Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Crist Camden officiating. The service will be live-streamed at Facebook.com/BernsteinFuneral. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
