

Born in Lexington, GA April 2, 1925, she was the daughter of the late James Cooke Williams and Cullen Battle Williams. In 1928 the family moved to Athens where she was raised.
Cullen attended Barrow School and the Lucy Cobb Institute and graduated from Athens High School. She transferred to the University of Georgia after a freshman year at Virginia Intermont College. Along with four Athens High classmates, she had been a part of a pre-college program for seniors run by UGA art professor Lamar Dodd, and she continued her art studies with him upon returning to UGA. She was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. Her first job following graduation in 1945 was on the art staff of Rich’s Department Store in Atlanta.
While at the University during the War years, Cullen met her husband to be, the late Robert Lee Lovvorn, who was a student in the Navy Pre-Flight School in Athens. They were married in 1947 at Emmanuel Church and moved to Bob’s hometown of Bremen, GA. They later moved to Winder, GA and in 1960 to Rome, GA. They raised two children, Cullen Lee Lovvorn and James Ridley Lovvorn.
While in Rome, Cullen served in child protective services for Floyd County DFACS. She was very active in the Seven Hills Garden Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, served for many years as a Girl Scout leader, and enjoyed membership with her husband Bob in the Rome Power Squadron until he passed away. In retirement she gathered memories and created dozens of scrapbooks from traveling throughout the country and abroad.
In 2007, she moved back to Athens and enjoyed residence life in Talmadge Terrace.
Besides her parents and husband, Cullen was predeceased by her sister Eleanor Williams Griner. She is survived by her daughter Lee L. Albright and her husband John W. Albright of Athens and son James R. Lovvorn and his wife Marjorie Lovvorn Brooks of Carbondale, IL. She is also survived by grandchildren Cullen O’Steen (Patrick) and John Albright (Kristine) of Athens, Whitney Rux (Andrea) of Littleton, CO, Megin Rux of Cheyenne, WY, and Maura Rux Schmidt (Christopher) of Denver, CO; and great-grandchildren William Murphy, Sally O’Steen, Ashley and Nolan Rux, and Porter Schmidt.
Funeral services will be at Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Athens on Monday, February 3 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church’s Common Room. A family burial service in Bremen, GA will be held the following day.
