
Deirdre Elizabeth Peters, 60, of Athens, died on November 2, 2025 after a short battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late William Lee Peters and Sarah Mullins Peters of Athens. She was born on October 19, 1965, in Rochester, New York.
She is survived by her mother; her sister, Cynthia Maddox of Flower Mound, Texas; her aunt, Elizabeth Turner of Asheville, North Carolina; her cousin Douglas Teague and family of Atlanta, Georgia; her cousin Elizabeth Thompson and family of Asheville, North Carolina; her uncle Micheal Mullins and his wife Carol Mullins; her cousin Trevor Mullins and family; her cousin Michelle Omer and family, all of the Washington D.C. area; and finally her “sister,” Meg Spencer of Athens, Georgia.
Deirdre attended Highland Park High School in Dallas, Texas and St. Edward’s University and the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, and graduated from El Centro Jr. College in Dallas, Texas.
After living in Chicago for several years, she returned to Athens to be close to family. She worked in garden centers and florists before getting a job with the State Botanical Garden at the University of Georgia, as the events coordinator.
A memorial service will be held at the Cecil B. Day Chapel at the State Botanical Garden on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the State Botanical Garden or your local humane society.
