

DeMaris Fowler Turk passed away January 6, 2022. To know her, was to love her. She was the daughter of Harry and Helen Fowler, born September 4, 1937. She grew up in Athens, Georgia and was proud to be a native Athenian. DeMaris graduated from Athens High School, class of 1955. She attended The University of Georgia where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. DeMaris was an active member of Junior League of Athens, having served as Treasurer and President in addition to numerous policy committees.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens. Since the 70’s, DeMaris always looked forward to her monthly time with the Bridge Club ladies and dear friends. DeMaris was involved as a parent and grandparent at Athens Academy and Clarke Central High School. She was especially involved in the athletic programs where her son Jeff and grandson Michael Fitzgerald participated.
DeMaris was co-owner with her husband, Dr. Turk of the Athens Veterinary Clinic. The practice was established in 1957, while the new hospital was built in 1965 on the Atlanta Highway. DeMaris served as an integral part managing the business during Ray’s years in practice.
Dee was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 58 years, Dr. Ray Turk. She also follows her brother, Harry Wilbur Fowler; and sisters, Carol Barner and Lanell Fowler.
She is survived by her son, Jeff and wife Elizabeth of St. Simons Island; and her daughter, Jennifer Fitzgerald and husband Mike of Athens. Grandchildren include Michael and Demi of Atlanta, Camille and Clary Turk of St. Simons Island; and her brother, Ronnie Fowler of Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Athens. A reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall following the service.
