An Athens native, Dennis was the son of the late Marion Zabiel and Helen Kucharska Zabiel. He retired from DuPont and was a history buff with a special interest in World War II. Dennis enjoyed traveling to historic sites focusing on that war.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Zabiel.
Survivors include sister, Martha Hammond (Jody) of Colbert; nephew, Chris Brady of Athens; great-niece, Carly Zumbro (David) of Comer; and sister-in-law, Elaine Zabiel of Athens.
No services are planned at this time.
