

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 1 at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, 800 Timothy Rd., Athens. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Dow was born in Hoquiam, Washington on May 3, 1919, daughter of the late Annette L. Dean and Fred T. Dean. She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Arden W. Dow; her brother, Fred T. Dean Jr.; and sister-in-law, Lillian M. Dean. Dodie graduated from the University of Washington in 1941 and married Arden Dow in 1942. They spent the first 25 years of their married life with Col. Dow serving in the US Army. When Col. Dow retired from the Army in 1963, he was employed by the University of Georgia and they made their home in Athens on Pinewood Circle for over 40 years. Mrs. Dow was a member of St. Stephen's Anglican Church, DAR, PEO and a former member of the Athens Road Runners and St. Mary’s Auxiliary. She was an avid golfer until the age of 92 and two of her great-grandsons played their first 18 holes with her. Mrs. Dow loved her family and friends and was an inspiration to her children, six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren throughout her life.
Survivors include her daughters, Sharon Dow Sprouse and her husband, J. Edward Sprouse, Barbara Dow Hinshaw and her husband, Jeffrey M. Hinshaw; six grandchildren, Kathleen Sprouse Doss (Edmund), Shannon Sprouse Ferguson (Ed), Barbara Sprouse Cummings (Carson), J. Ryan Hinshaw (Hadley), Anna Hinshaw Wepprich (Tyson), Sarah K. Hinshaw and 13 great-grandchildren, Coates Doss, Wirth Doss, Louise Doss, Hannah Doss, Ed Ferguson, Grace Ferguson, Pratt Ferguson, Carson Cummings, Ford Cummings, Jac Cummings, Liam Hinshaw, Owen Hinshaw and Theo Hinshaw.
The family expresses deep gratitude for the excellent and loving care provided to Dodie by Shirley Meadows, Barbara Norman and Gwen Jackson at Highland Hills, and the St. Mary’s Hospice House staff for the last year and a half.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests those who wish to make donations, please make them to St. Stephen's Anglican Church, St. Mary’s Hospice or PEO.
