Eric Lee Kenney, 43, of Bishop, passed away Monday, October 12, 2020.

Eric was born November 9, 1976 in Hamilton, Ohio. He was the son of Jesse and Sandra Kenney.

Survivors include his loving wife of 23 years, Lisa Marie Kenney; daughter, Mackenzie Lynn Kenney; son, Hunter Lee Kenney; brother, Brian Kenney; and his parents, Jesse and Sandra Kenney.

Eric earned his forestry degree in Wildlife Management from UGA. He was an avid University of Georgia football fan and enjoyed decades of football games and football friends. He was a founding member of Athens Jaycees and honored with an award that became known as the “Eric Kenney Award.” A key part of his service was overseeing annual Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots campaigns that blessed countless families in Athens and surrounding communities. Some of Eric’s favorite things to do with Lisa and the kids included traveling to see friends and family scattered across the country, to attend almost all away Georgia football games, and to Boston, a dream come true trip to Fenway Park to see his beloved Red Sox. He also spent a lot of time going to the movies with his family.

He enjoyed going to his life-long vacation home on beautiful Siesta Key in Sarasota, FL. Throughout his time spent there, what he considered to be family grew to include so many with whom he shared so many fond memories created over his 42 years of vacationing there. This meant so much to him that he chose Siesta Key as his final resting place.

A celebration of Eric’s life will be Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 3:00 pm at the Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Selleck officiating.

Family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00.

In lieu of flowers please send any donations payable to the Eric Kenney Children’s Educational Trust at 3651 Mars Hill Road, Suite 500-A, Watkinsville, GA 30677, Georgia Wildlife Federation:; or Athens Area Toys for Tots:

Sandra and Jesse,
Grief, I’ve learned, is really a form of love. It’s all the love you want to give, but cannot. All that unspent love gathers up in the corners of your eyes, the lump in your throat, and in that hollow part of your chest. Grief is love with no place to go.
Our prayers and thoughts are with you,
Love, Donna & Jim

Lisa, Mackenzie, and Hunter,

It is almost impossible to put into words what your family has meant to mine, and what your loss means to us. The love Eric had for every member of our SCV family, old and young, will be with us forever and is immeasurable. He will never leave our hearts, and our hearts are full for you. Love you all so much.

Dear Lisa, Mackenzie, Hunter, Sandra & Jesse

Words can’t express how deeply saddened Joe and I are to hear of Eric’s passing. We think of Mackenzie and Hunter often. It has been years since we have seen the entire family BUT the whole family was a HUGE part of our lives growing up.
Joe and I were so blessed to have had Eric in our lives and we will never forget him. We are thankful to have so many fond memories of/with him.

My Husband and I will never forget Eric’s smile and contagious laugh!

Love, Rachel (Romig) Shank & Joe Shank

Dear Sandy and Jesse,
Sad does not begin to convey the feeling Foy and I had when learning of Eric’s passing. It seems like only yesterday we were all working with the youth at Athens First United Methodist Church. I have to tell you those were some of the best years of my life and many of my memories include the two of you, Brian, and Eric. I can’t imagine the depth of your grief. Foy and I hold you close in our prayers. We love you all.

Dear Lisa, Mackenzie, Hunter, Jessie and Sandra, and Brian,

Skip and I love you all. We offer you our most sincere sympathy--- and GRATITUDE.

ERIC and all of you were the source of much of
the joy we experienced at SCV, "around the table"! So many laughs, lots of shared conversations....even advice from the older folks....and the best part----we listened to one another---old and young. If someone had a problem----we all cared.

The quality I absolutely loved about Eric was his way of making you
feel as if you were the only one talking. He listened. He cared. I think all of the rest of us did too.

THAT is what makes this so especially
heartbreaking. We ALL loved Eric....perhaps more than he realized.
But that didn't make our love, any less and nothing ever will.

Skip and I will say good-bye but we'll always have Eric in our hearts and in our prayers. We even yelled for the Bull Dogs Saturday....
We just HAD to!

God bless you all and we'll hold Eric in our hearts forever,
Skip and Beckie Claxton
