Evelyn Faye Daniel Hix

Evelyn Faye Daniel Hix passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. A native Athenian, she was born on April 26, 1942 to the late Bailey Franklin Daniel and Essie Ophelia Hollis Daniel. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Franklin Daniel and nephew, Robert Steven Daniel.

Evelyn graduated from Athens High School in 1960 and with her love of hairdressing attended Athens Technical College where she received her Master of Cosmetology degree. She opened her own salon and acquired an extensive clientele which she considered treasured friends and family.

Evelyn and her husband Don spent 20 years in Winder where they became active members of Winder First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the W.Y. Smith Sunday School class and cherished her time with the Circle One Ladies Group. Evelyn was a member of the Winder Noon Lions Club and the Athens Lioness Club. Her baking skills were enjoyed by many friends, family and clients over the years especially her 14-layer chocolate cake.

Survivors include her loving husband and high school sweetheart of 64 years, Donald Hix of Athens, Georgia; daughters, Lynn McCaughey (Bill) of Milton, Georgia, Denise Bailey (Danny) of Danielsville, Georgia; grandchildren, Courtney Barker (Brad), Tanner Bailey (Candice) and William Bailey (Drew); great-grandchildren, Clara Bailey, Emma Bailey and Grace Catherine Barker; nephew, Derek Daniel (Lori); niece, Angie Hix, as well as several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Monica Huff, Barbara Taylor and life-long friend Connie Tippett for their loving care and support, as well as Amedisys Hospice.

Visitation will be at Bernstein Funeral Home on Sunday, November 16, 2025, from 1:00-2:30 p.m., with a graveside service immediately following at Evergreen Memorial Park. Rev. Dr. Geoff Murphy and Alice Lipscomb will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Winder First United Methodist Church.
