Dr. Floyd Kenneth Moates

Dr. Floyd Kenneth Moates was born in Chattanooga, September 10, 1928 and passed away on February 5, 2019.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Mellie Moates, two brothers and a sister. He is survived by his brothers, J.R. Moates, C.L. Moates; and sister, Evelyn Peace; his children, Joy Moates of Delray, FL, Cheryl Moates of Marietta, Ken Moates and wife, Anna of Athens; grandchildren, Maranda and Tyler Lively of Canton, Zach Moates of Athens, Megan Lively of Atlanta, Kelly and Hana Moates of Athens; and one great-grandchild, Jackson Lively.
Dr. Moates grew up in Chattanooga, attended Central High School. He attended Howard (Samford) in Alabama and then Asbury Seminary in Kentucky. He served as a Baptist minister for several years before receiving his Doctorate in Psychology from the University of Georgia. He then worked for a number of years as a Professor at Shorter College in Rome as well as in the mental health field. He loved visiting Lake Hartwell, going to Panama City Beach, eating ice cream and spending time with his family. His children were his greatest joy.
