A native of Clarke County, Mr. Mangum was a son of the late Garland Jarrett Mangum Sr. and Lena Holland Mangum. He graduated from University High School in 1949. Mr. Mangum joined the United States Air Force in 1952 during the Korean War and was stationed in England for 18 months and then West Palm Beach, Florida until he was discharged in 1956. He retired from Eli Witt after working in sales.
He was a charter member and deacon of Oconee Heights Baptist Church, a member of Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge and the Oconee Heights Civitan Club. Mr. Mangum enjoyed fishing and UGA football. His proudest family moments were the birth of his only child, her graduation from Nursing School, her marriage, the birth of his two grandchildren and his great-grandchild.
Survivors include wife, Estelle Parker Mangum; daughter, Nancy Mangum Duce and husband, Dale; grandson, Adam Dale Duce and wife, Bonnie; granddaughter, Allison Hope Duce and fiance’, Brice Howell; great-granddaughter, Olivia Belle Duce; brother-in-law, Elbert Parker and wife, Gwen; sister-in-law, Harriette Harris; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 9 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. Rob Bailey officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
