

Born September 29, 1936, in Louvale, Stewart County, Georgia, she was the daughter of Wayne and Jacque Gordy.
A dedicated educator, Mrs. McBride devoted her career to teaching subjects ranging from home economics to physics and chemistry. She was honored as Georgia’s STAR Teacher and a National Education Association Distinguished Teacher in 1987 and retired from Clarke Central High School.
She was also known as the beloved wife of the late Rev. Claude McBride, Pastor Emeritus of Milledge Avenue Baptist Church and former Team Chaplain for the University of Georgia football team, who predeceased her in 2013. As a pastor’s wife, Mrs. McBride served the church in many roles, including as a faithful member of the choir.
She is survived by her son, Walt and wife Lori of Gainesville; her daughter, Wynter of Athens; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Harrison of Athens; Claudia Youngblood, husband Evan, and daughter Scottie of Madison; Abigayle and son Carson Young of Athens; Susannah Pearson and husband Jason of Athens; and Gracie of Gainesville.
Mrs. McBride will be laid to rest at Marvin Methodist Church in Louvale. A memorial service will be held at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church on October 26 at a time to be announced later.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Milledge Avenue Baptist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
