George was born March 21, 1933, to George R. Kelley, Sr. and Eleitha Hood Kelley. He served in the US Navy (1951-1955). He owned and operated The Music Shop, later named Kelley’s TV & Appliance. Over the years, he enjoyed golf, water and snow skiing, dirt bike riding, saltwater fishing and grilling (known for his fall off the bone, BBQ sauce on your face ribs) and celebrating his beloved Georgia Bulldogs with many friends. He was invited to visit Colbert Methodist Church and quickly became a regular. He loved his Sunday school class. When he was unable to attend, he enjoyed their phone calls on Sunday morning at 10:10 for encouragement and prayer. He was also impressed with their food distribution for those in need.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 58 years, Joan Hancock Kelley; sisters, Catherine Ravita, Betty Sullivan and Elaine McManus; and a brother, Frederick Kelley.
He leaves behind sons, Brad Lanier (Loredana) of Joliet, IL, George Kelley, III (Peggy) Danielsville, GA, Jay Kelley (Darrell) of Bucksport, Maine; and daughter, Gina Kelley Schwartz (Steve) of Watkinsville, GA. He was affectionately known as Pop to his ten grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Visitation will be at 10:00 am with service to follow at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 29, at Colbert Methodist Church in Colbert, GA.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Kelley suggested donations be made to Colbert Methodist Church: for his Sunday school class to be able to purchase large print bibles; for the monthly food distribution fund; or in theMIDDLEmeals.
