It is with profound sadness that I announce the loss of my father, friend, and role model, Gerald Buron Farlow, who passed away on Saturday, March 19 at approximately 2:45 am.
Born in 1935, my father served this great country as a Paratrooper in the United States Army with both the 11th Airborne Division and with the 82nd Airborne Division. He went on to earn both a Master of Actuarial Science degree and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in actuarial science from Georgia State University.
His professional accomplishments include serving as a member of the actuarial staff at Life Insurance Company of Georgia; as a consultant with Bowles, Andrews, and Towne; as Vice President of Georgia International Life Insurance Company; as Executive Vice President of an affiliated firm of Huggins & Company in Philadelphia; and as Vice President of Information Systems with Pan-American Life Insurance Company in New Orleans.
The accomplishment that was most important to him, however, was the founding of Gerald B. Farlow & Associates, Ltd. in 1981. With my father’s experience and direction, the company quickly grew to become an industry leader for small insurance company formation and management.
I am thankful beyond words that I was able to spend so much time with him, both personally and professionally, and that he was willing to teach me everything he knew about the industry in which we serve. His legacy will continue to live on through the company he was so proud to establish 41 years ago.
His parents, Buron Farlow and Maple Farlow, and his brothers, Randol Farlow and Floyd Farlow, preceded my father in death. His wife, Stephanie Farlow; his sister, Carol West; and his son, Ian Farlow and his wife, Lisa Farlow, survive him.
