Gifford was born in Franklin County, Georgia to the late Reward Curtis Argo and Mattie Ruth Bruce Argo and lived most of his life in Athens. He graduated from Athens High School and went on to attended Athens Technical College, where he was certified in air conditioning repair. Gifford worked as a farmer for most of his life and was well known for his produce that he sold at the State Farmers Market on West Broad Street. He also owned and operated Argo Muffler Shop on Macon Highway, with his brothers, Eric and Mitchell and worked with Foster’s Jewelers for many years.
In addition to his parents, his brothers, Eric Argo and Mitchell Argo and his sister, Carolyn Powell, preceded Gifford in death.
His niece, Kimberley Powell of Athens and brother-in-law, Richard Powell of Athens, survive him.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 12:00 to 1:30 PM, Tuesday, September 24, in Bernstein Funeral Home, followed by a 2:00 PM graveside funeral service in Evergreen Memorial Park with Reverend Herman Nation officiating.
