Harvey Stephen Chambers Sr., known to friends and family as Steve, Darlin, Dad, Papa, Pop, and Gramps, the youngest of five children, born in Coal City, Alabama on February 1, 1941, to Harvey and Ivanette Chambers. Steve graduated from Pell City High School (class of 1959), then went on to the University of Alabama where he finished with majors in Math and Physics.
After graduating the University of Alabama, Steve enjoyed a 40-year career to include work with the Chrysler Space Division (Huntsville, Alabama), NASA (Houston, Texas), Digital Equipment Corporation (Houston & Birmingham), and entrepreneurial adventures in Solid Pine furniture store and Tilapia farming. Some of his greatest pleasures were annual beach trips with the extended family, as well as hunting and fishing with his sons. After retiring, he continued taking courses at Kennesaw State University where he also took pleasure in tutoring the disabled through 2016. His wit, wisdom, and tall tales of adventure as a youth growing up in rural Alabama kept the family entertained regularly around the supper table. A true Renaissance man, Steve loved history and literature. When not occupied with a shovel or saw, he could be found relaxing with his Bible or the writings of C.S. Lewis.
Steve is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart of 61 years, Elissa Hamilton; three sons, Steve and wife Jerrie, Jeff and wife Mitzi, Chris and wife Val; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
A man of faith, integrity, honesty, and loyalty, Steve Chambers was an outstanding loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. We shall miss him greatly but recognize that we shall all be reunited one day through Christ Jesus.
