

Hazel was born February 11, 1928 in Commerce and she was the daughter of the late Charlie Vance and Lucille Hawkes.
She married Lamar Pittard and they raised two sons, the late CPT. Lamar "Buddy" Pittard and Steven Pittard. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Athens. She enjoyed church activities, cooking for family and the Georgia Bulldogs.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Lamar Pittard; son, CPT. Lamar "Buddy" Pittard; brother, Joe T. Hawkes; sister, Betty Todd; and nephew, John Bailey.
Survivors include her son, Steven Pittard and his wife, Jean; two grandchildren, Matthew Pittard and his wife, Anna, Daniel Pittard and his companion, Kelsey; great-grandchildren, Mattie, Lyla and Lucy Kate; and nieces, Jan Williams, Carol Harris, Teresa Gresham and Lisa Holloway.
A visitation for Hazel will be held Sunday, January 26, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Bernstein Funeral Home, 3195 Atlanta Hwy., Athens, Georgia 30606. Following the visitation will be a funeral service at 3:00 PM in the Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Elizabeth Hagan officiating.
Hazel will be laid to rest in Evergreen Memorial Park, 3655 Atlanta Hwy., Athens, Georgia 30606.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Hazel's memory may be made to the First Christian Church of Athens, 268 W Dougherty St., Athens, GA 30601.
Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
