

He was born in Athens, GA November 14, 1925, the eldest of three children to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ernest Thaxton and was preceded in death by his brother, James Allen Thaxton. After graduating from University High School in Athens, GA, Mr. Thaxton joined the United States Army and fought in World War II as a member of the Mountain Infantry Division in northern Italy. Mr. Thaxton was a retired supervisor from Chicopee Manufacturing Company.
Mr. Thaxton lived life to its fullest. He was multi-talented with a special gift as an artist and master gardener. Mr. Thaxton had a wonderful sense of humor and was quick to offer help to anyone in need and never spoke ill of anyone. He will be greatly missed by his family who take comfort that he will live on in Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior.
Survivors in addition to his loving wife of 67 years include his sons, Dr. Paul Thaxton and his wife, Terri of Augusta and Daniel Thaxton and his wife, Joyce of Loganville; daughter, Paula Hansford and her husband, Lloyd of Watkinsville; sister, Betty Waters and her husband, Marvin of Athens; granddaughters, Michelle Hardy and her husband, Mason of Columbia, SC and Danielle Thaxton of Loganville; grandsons, Michael Thaxton of Atlanta and Lafe Hansford of Watkinsville, and two great-granddaughters, Sarah Anne and Mary Heyward Hardy.
Funeral services will be held 11AM Saturday, January 28th in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Kesler and Rev. Morris Sapp officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Friday, January 27th at Bernstein.
