He was born November 12, 1970, in Atlanta. He is the grandson of the late RAdm Hinton A and Dorothy Caven Owens of Augusta and the late John H Wood and Esther Gordon Bates of Commerce. Allen is a graduate of Clarke Central’s Class of 88. He attended the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences in Tempe Arizona in 1999. After graduating, he moved to Louisiana to do his internship in the film industry. He then went to work for TASCAM as technical support for musicians and recording studios worldwide. Allen moved back home to Athens in 2006 and began his career as a music instructor and mentor to both young and old teaching guitar, bass and ukulele. From this found love of teaching rose his desire to participate in many programs offered to youth by Nuci’s Space. He was a gifted educator and mentor able to temper his high expectations for students with compassion, patience and understanding. The next decade Allen worked on countless projects making records, touring and continually creating music. Some bands and projects since ’06 include Kinky Waikiki, Powerload, Pride Parade, National Anthem, Big C, and the Velvet Delta, Free Ball, Stewart and Winfield and CreeMo.
His passion and love of music was equal to his love of football and sports in general. Allen leaves many lifelong friends whose lives he touched along the way and he will be sorely missed.
Survivors include his parents, Hinton Allen Owens II and Nancy Wood Owens, Watkinsville; siblings, Carlton Walker Owens, Athens, Michael Paul Owens (Jennifer), Palm City, Fla., and Katherine Marie Owens, Watkinsville; and nephews, Walker Allen Owens and Julian Christopher Owens, Palm City. Fla.
