Harwood, Missouri, he was born April 11, 1918 to Ira Kaiser Rehmel and
Lillian Rehmel.
Mr. Rehmel faithfully served his country for 21 years in the U.S Navy. He
was honorably discharged in 1959 having survived WW 11 and the Korean
War, attaining the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. Subsequently he accepted
employment with the James W. Bell Company of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, as
Vice President of their Parts and Service Department. After 21 years with
the Bell company he retired in 1982. In December of the following year, he
and his wife, Kathryn, of 68 years moved to join family in Athens, GA,
residing in in Pleasant Hill Subdivision, Oconee County. Mr. Rehmel loved
landscaping and maintaining their home. He became known for the roses
and gardenias he grew for his wife and the many beautiful bouquets he
loved give to friends and neighbors. Not one to sit still, and always ready
to be of service, he remained loyal and active with Bogart First Baptist
Church, the Fleet Reserve Association, Oconee County’s Adopt a Mile
program, Oconee County’s Clean and Beautiful Commission, Oconee
County Recycling program and with many friends and family. A natural
leader, he was always there for others, never failing to make a difference.
He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by son, Roger Allan Rehmel and wife, Susan, of Athens, GA; daughter, Linda Kay Miller and husband, John, of Anderson, SC; nine
grandchildren (five by birth and four by marriage) and 10 great-grand
children.
Funeral Services will be on Saturday, April 13, 2013, at 3:00 PM at the
chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. Ted Tedder and Chaplain Bill
Hayes officiating. Visitation with family will be prior to the service starting
at 2:00 PM also at Bernstein. Internment will occur following the service at
Evergreen Memorial Park where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved
wife, Kathryn.
